Caring for destination
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Caring for Phuket's elephants and educational support for rural schools.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Siam Safari help raise funds so that all elephants on the island of Phuket can receive visits from the vets from the Elephant Hospital in northern Thailand twice a year.
Siam Safari also make regular donations to the Elephant Hospital so they keep caring for the approximate 30 elephants they are currently treating.
Siam Safari has been using its 18 years experience in the nature tourism industry to raise
public awareness and generate much needed funds for three schools in the Khao Sok area. The company is well aware of the limitations of simply donating funds, choosing to engage the children in educational and skills development activities. Projects to date have included story writing, t-shirt design and gardening competitions, with the winners receiving sponsorships, or fun activity days for the entire class.
All proceeds from sales, plus any money collected in donation boxes is filtered back into the schools project. On each Children's Day (13th Jan) Siam Safari donates 10,000 baht to each of the three local schools, which is used to help support the education of the poorest students with clothes, books and writing materials. Siam Safari has also facilitated the donation of 8 personal computers in the last 18 months.
